about

Good Will Remedy have been serenading and rocking Australian audiences for half a dozen years now. In that time most bands might release a couple of albums, but the prolific and hard working GWR already have five albums under their belt, with number six set to hit stores and DSPs in the fourth quarter of 2023.

The first tantalising taste of the album comes in the form of 'Jay' (which premiered on ABC Country's Grass Roots), a song that pays homage to the raw sunshine sound of Brisbane icons The Go-Betweens and Halfway.

You can hear the rich lineage of country-flavoured Australian rock music coursing through the chiming guitars of Mitch Reid and Dave Newman, and the tumbling and melodic rhythmic section of bassist, singer and songwriter Will Lebihan and drummer Rob Penman. Sonic nods to the Hoodoo Gurus and You Am I are buried in the DNA of the song as Will elevates the music to a beautiful and soulful place with his resonant, soaring vocal performance. It all adds up to 'Jay' being of those timeless, freewheeling instant classic Americana rock songs.

'Jay' is a song about loss but not sadness," explains Will. "It's a song that feels like timeless memories - personal, yet relatable. Whilst there is undeniable pain in losing someone, particularly suddenly, I wanted the song to project positivity via a warm and uplifting arrangement – one that could provide a form of comfort in knowing that there is a better place for us all."

When Will sings “that rock n roll concert above the clouds, just got another VIP in the crowd…” he sings of hope, of positivity, of strength in knowing that Jay will be spending his time doing what he loved the most.

lyrics

What a waste
Gonna miss your face
Such a bitter pill to take
Gonna miss your face around this place

This time last week
We were laughing and we were scamming
You were always laughing at me
This time last week
Things were normal
Or about as normal as things could be
Living with me
Things won’t ever be the same

What a waste
Gonna miss your face
Such a bitter pill to take
Gonna miss your face around this place

This time next week
They’ll be nothing
Just your records slowly turnin
Spinning for you
This time next week
I’ll be standing
I’ll be hanging here without you
Listening to tunes
Things won’t ever be the same

What a waste
Gonna miss your face
Such a bitter pill to take
Gonna miss your face around this place

Well that rock n roll concert above the clouds
Has gotta another VIP in the crowd
Up the front in the crowd mate
And I hope your bottomless king-size cup’s never empty
I hope they’ve gotta enough JD for ya
JD and cola for ya mate
Things won’t ever be the same

What a waste
Gonna miss your face
Such a bitter pill to take
Gonna miss your face around this place
